Nikola Tesla Airport, now only Belgrade Airport, started operating in 1962. Today is Belgrade Airport the largest airport in Serbia. The former airport consisted of a 3,000-meter runway, a port building for passenger reception, a control tower and fairly modern equipment of that time, while buildings and extending runways were added later. The former airport boasted state-of-the-art navigation equipment, which existed at the time. The new Belgrade Airport is the base airport of the national airline Air Serbia, as well as charter airlines Aviogenex, Wizz Air, Air Pink, Prince aviation and many other companies.

In honor of Serbia's greatest scientist, the airport has been called "Nikola Tesla Airport" since 2006. Recently, in 2018, the Belgrade airport is operated by the French company "VINCI Airports" under the Concession Agreement.
